Once upon a time, before I tweeted and connected with strangers on the Internet, I folded denim and told people what to wear for a living. Recently, I took things back to when I styled clients at Saks Fifth Avenue. I channeled my inner stylist in my latest look, featuring the quintessential red skirt that every girl needs in their wardrobe.
The phrase, “Oh my God, the red skirt,” was unintentionally coined by my then cheerful boss, who was inspiring our sales team on the potential of the new arrivals– one of which was a red skirt. His excitement literally made me want to buy a red skirt. It always has, which is why I grabbed this patent leather red skirt from Nordstrom last season (I’m sorry I don’t have a link for you guys, but if you dig it, there are some similar styles on PrettyLittleThing and Missguided).
The lesson: it’s not about what it is, it’s about how you sell it, and in fashion, it’s not about the clothes, it’s about how you wear them.
