So, you have a great cleanser, but you’re still getting breakouts and your hormones aren’t helping. There is more to clear skin than the cleanser alone. It is the first part of your regimen that will get you that instant gratification of clean feeling skin. However, it is the treatment that will help you keep your breakouts at bay, attack blemishes, and prevent future breakouts. Here are my go-to treatments for acne prone skin.
Clinique Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel, $17.50–26
This miracle gel works to stop zits in their tracks and relieve existing ones. I have combination skin, and when my acne flares up, this is my holy grail spot treatment. When my breakouts were more severe, I applied it to my entire face as a preventative measure before using a serum or moisturizer. The active ingredient, salicylic acid, is anti-inflammatory and helps to reduce redness and unblock pores, allowing pimples to shrink.
Peter Thomas Roth Max Complexion Correction Pads, $40
I was surprised at the effectiveness of these pads. I even skipped my toner for a week while using these. It gave me speedy results. Not only will this product attack your existing pimples, but also help to prevent new ones and clear the overall complexion. It contains alpha and beta hydroxy acids (AHAs and BHAs), which help to treat skin from the surface by evening the texture and skin tone and visually minimizing pore size, respectively. I recommend allowing your skin to get used to the pads before using them twice a day, as they may cause dryness. Follow them with an intensely hydrating, gel moisturizer.
Origins Super Spot Remover Acne Treatment Gel, $16
This treatment gel is great for quick fixes and acne inflammation. I dabbed this on a zit, and noticed it had shrunk by the end of the day. Featured ingredients, salicylic acid and witch hazel, work together to clear pimples and calm the irritation that comes with them. Origins is an ideal brand for those with sensitive skin, as they tend to use mostly natural ingredients.
GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD CLEARING TREATMENT, $69
This intense mask does exactly what it says it will: clear the skin. It completely unclogs the pores, fights pimples and blemishes. This is your go-to treatment for instant results. I’ve used this and my face not only felt smooth and appeared matte, but I didn’t feel a bit of excess oil the next day. I love how smooth it goes on and the tingling and hardening sensation you get as the mask dries. This is a great twice a week treatment to keep your skin clean and clear.
